Mailpiece Design Analysts (MDA) are postal employees specially trained to answer your questions regarding mailpiece design. These employees provide advice and issue rulings regarding acceptability for automated rates. MDAs provide technical assistance on mailpiece design to envelope manufacturers, printers, advertising agencies, and graphic designers.

MERLIN (Mail Evaluation Readability Lookup INstrument)
A USPS tool that is used to assist with the acceptance of business mail. The MERLIN program helps you qualify for automation discounts and meet acceptance requirements for bulk mailings. After MERLIN has completed running samples, it analyzes the data and provides the MERLIN operator with reports to be shared with the mailer.
